We are seeking a Curtain Designer / Seamstress to join our team. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly skilled in sewing, and passionate about translating interior design concepts into beautifully executed curtain and upholstery pieces.
Role Overview
The Curtain Designer / Seamstress will be responsible for designing, cutting, and sewing bespoke curtains and soft furnishings, with an emphasis on quality, precision, and creativity. This role requires a blend of technical sewing expertise, fabric knowledge, and design sense. A background in fashion design or interior textiles is highly desirable.
This position is both creative and rigorous by nature and you need to think
outside the box. We expect the candidate to be proactive and have a "get it done"
spirit. To be successful, you will have solid solving problem skills.
Responsibilities
- Design, cut, and sew various curtain styles (e.g., pleated, ripple fold, eyelet, roman blinds, layered drapery, pelmets, swags, and valances).
- Interpret interior designers’ concepts and translate them into curtain and upholstery solutions.
- Recommend fabric selections, trims, and finishes to complement design schemes.
- Work with a wide range of fabrics including silks, velvets, sheers, jacquards, linens, and performance fabrics.
- Support upholstery projects by sewing cushion covers, slipcovers, and other soft furnishing details.
- Ensure all curtain and upholstery products meet high standards of finish, durability, and functionality.
- Inspect seams, hems, and linings for consistency and quality.
- Stay updated with global trends in drapery and soft furnishing design.
- Provide expert advice on fabric performance, maintenance, and installation techniques.
- Participate in installations and fittings when required.
Must Have
- Strong background (Diploma, degree or Certificate) in Fashion Design, curtain design, Textile Design, or a related field.
- Specialized training in curtain making, tailoring, or upholstery is an advantage.
- Proven portfolio of custom curtain projects (traditional and contemporary)
- Proficiency in sewing machines, sergers, and other industrial equipment.
- Ability to draft and follow patterns for complex curtain and upholstery styles.
- Excellent knowledge of curtain and upholstery fabrics, trims, and accessories.
- Strong measurement and calculation skills to ensure precision in fit and proportion.
